This morning I was doing something on the computer and Piper was sitting on the floor playing. I put my feet next to her so that if she started to fall I could catch her with my legs. She doesn’t fall very often, but it is a hardwood floor so I thought I should be cautious. Well, I noticed that she started rubbing the back of her arms where she has eczema against my legs. And I just thought, “You know, I don’t shave my legs for one day and my daughter uses me as a scratching post.”
“Mama”
Piper says Mama. She has been saying it for a while but it was mostly just an accidental combination of sounds. Well, now she actually says it like it’s her word. I don’t think she really knows that I’m Mama, but she knows that it’s a word. She says it as her word for “Get me out of this chair” or “I’m getting tired here” or “Please hurry up with the food”. And occasionally she says it when I’m around. So, there it is folks – Piper’s first word.
“I made her drool”
My friend, Brenda, has a super cute, super funny 5-year old daughter named Kira. Piper loves Kira. Whenever Kira and Piper are together Kira tries to make Piper laugh and usually Piper is in hysterics. The other day we went to lunch with them and Piper was tired and doing all the teething stuff so she wasn’t really laughing but just kinda drooling all over herself. Kira was trying to make her laugh for a while and then she looked at us and said, very proudly, “I made her drool.”
Standing, Crawling, Squirming…
Piper stood up, while holding onto a box, just for a second the other day. She’s trying to crawl but when she gets her legs under her she kinda pushes her face into the ground. She squirms around and can move herself pretty well. She’s only rolls over from front to back (and she doesn’t even do that often). She gets so close rolling from back to front but she won’t actually go over so she kinda looks like she’s doing a Martha Graham (modern dancer – for those of you who don’t dance) step. In fact, she’s probably just showing off. She has mastered sitting really well. She can even reach behind her for things while she’s sitting up and not fall over. I think she should get a star on her star chart for that. Wouldn’t that be funny if we actually made a star chart and gave Piper star stickers when she reached her goals. I mean, why not teach her about reaching goals at a young age?
Fun with The Pipes
We’ve just been having so much fun with Piper. (Yes, we call her Pipes) She’s such a good baby and she’s at such a great age. Yesterday we walked through a beautiful park in Piedmont. She was great the whole time. Except for the time that she was staring at the trees and I came up from behind her stroller and said “Boo!” and apparently scared her quite a bit. She jumped and then made the pre-crying pouty face and then let out a wail. Oops! But she stopped once I picked her up. I really didn’t mean to scare her like that. Other than that, she was just so happy. And she’s like that most of the time. She makes being a mom so much fun.
