DUBLIN — Dublin police were searching late Sunday night for an armed man who reportedly fired gunshots at his girlfriend in the Dougherty Road area.A woman who lives in an apartment on Dougherty just south of Amador Valley Boulevard reported that at about 8:15 p.m. her boyfriend had started acting strangely and fired a gun either in her direction or at her, said Jim Knudsen, public information officer for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. It was unclear if she was struck, Knudsen said. The man then took the gun and left the apartment.
He is believed to be off his medication, which may have contributed to the incident, Knudsen said.
Dougherty Road was blocked from Highway 580 to Amador Valley Boulevard, and no one was being allowed in, including residents of the neighborhood. Several apartment buildings in the area were evacuated.
Officers from the Dublin Police Department, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol were blocking access to the area while police conducted a search that included use of a helicopter.
A sheriff’s official at the scene said the incident was not related to a road-rage shooting in the area Saturday night.
